What Is Sign in with ChatGPT? Use Your ChatGPT Plan in Other Apps

Signed up for yet another AI app, only to find you need a second subscription to use its AI features? If you already pay for ChatGPT, paying again for every app's AI usage means spending twice on similar capabilities.
Sign in with ChatGPT lets you sign up for and log in to other apps with your ChatGPT account. In apps that support it, it can also let you power that app's AI features with the usage included in your own ChatGPT plan. Here, the daglo team explains how it works, based on what we heard at OpenAI DevDay Seoul 2026 and OpenAI's official documentation.
What is Sign in with ChatGPT? Identity plus optional plan usage

Sign in with ChatGPT has two parts: identity, which lets you sign up or log in to an app with your ChatGPT account, and plan usage, an optional permission that lets the app run eligible AI requests on your ChatGPT plan.
According to OpenAI's cookbook article, signing in successfully does not by itself give an app permission to use your plan. Plan usage is a separate choice you make.
It isn't open to everyone yet. OpenAI's developer docs describe the current behavior as a preview. Identity-only sign-in is offered to a select group of commercial partners first. Plan usage is available to open-source projects, personal projects that run locally, and selected private apps. Teams building paid or remotely hosted apps need to join a waitlist.
How is it different from "Sign in with Google"?

Social logins like Google or Apple only tell an app who you are. Sign in with ChatGPT can do that too, and, if you allow it, also cover the AI usage inside that app with your ChatGPT plan.
| Typical social login | Sign in with ChatGPT | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Sign up and log in | Sign up and log in, plus optional AI usage on your plan |
| Who pays for AI | The app, or it's bundled into the app's subscription | In supported apps, usage comes from your ChatGPT plan or credits |
| Where you track usage | Inside the app | ChatGPT Settings, under Usage, where you can also adjust limits |
At the Seoul event, OpenAI presented this as part of a broader shift toward ChatGPT subscriptions working together with outside services. If ChatGPT plugins bring outside tools into ChatGPT, Sign in with ChatGPT does the reverse: it lets your ChatGPT account travel out to other apps.
What to check as a user: what you share and where usage is counted

As a user, check two things: what permissions you're granting the app, and whether its AI features draw from your ChatGPT plan or from the app's own pricing.
- What you share: Review the account details the app asks for on the sign-in screen. OpenAI's docs state that neither identity nor plan usage gives the app access to your ChatGPT conversations.
- Granting plan usage: Apps often ask about this separately, during onboarding, billing, or in settings. You can sign in without turning it on.
- Usage labels: OpenAI's UI guidelines ask apps to show a "Using ChatGPT plan" indicator with a link to manage usage.
- Limits: You review usage and adjust limits in ChatGPT Settings, under Usage.
What it means for product teams: AI costs, sign-up friction, platform dependence

For the people building apps, the big change is who pays for AI. In supported apps, AI requests run on the user's ChatGPT plan, so the app no longer has to absorb every AI cost on its own.
- AI cost structure: In the cookbook's example app, AI requests run on the user's plan with no developer API key or billing setup. That opens room to offer AI features without charging separately for AI usage.
- Sign-up friction: People start with the ChatGPT account they already have instead of creating a new one, which shortens onboarding.
- Platform dependence: Available models and features follow OpenAI's terms. During the preview, features like image generation, file search, and audio input aren't available through plan usage.
So product managers and marketers need to decide how the app's own subscription and ChatGPT plan usage fit together, and how to label each clearly on screen. When people can't tell what they're paying for, trust erodes quickly.
Whatever account you sign in with, keep the original record of your meetings
Logging in may get easier, but the meetings and calls behind your work should still live, word for word, in a tool you choose. Whichever AI app you use next, the original transcript is what lets you go back and confirm what was decided.
daglo transcribes and summarizes meetings and calls and keeps the full transcript alongside the summary. With Board Chat, you can ask follow-ups such as "List only the deadlines we agreed on." Speaker ID remembers the voices of the people in your meetings and fills in their real names instead of "Speaker 1" from the next recording on. daglo is the first service in Korea to offer this to all users.
